ABSTRACT
To determine the main factors of job dissatisfaction among doctors serving in teaching hospitals of Hyderabad, Pakistan. One public sector teaching hospital, i.e., Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro and one private teaching hospital, i.e., ISRA University Hospital Hyderabad was selected as study places. Doctors working on contract, part time or having service less than one year were excluded. A pre- tested mailing questionnaire was sent to each one and their response was analyzed on SPSS version 15. Out of 300 questionnaires, 248 were received correctly. Among the respondents, 76.2% doctors were found to be completely dissatisfied with their jobs. Whereas, the mean score for satisfaction characteristics were lowest for working environment [2.12 +/- 0.07], Pay and Perks [2.13+0.08] and work load [2.14 +/- 0.08]. Only the category of Professor showed total satisfaction being 67%, while qualification wise analysis showed none of the degree holders was totally satisfied. On the basis of this study, showing dissatisfaction of hospital doctors towards job conditions, it is suggested to improve job conditions/characteristics with emphasis on the improvements in working environment, pay scale and work load

Objective: to identify causes and risk factors of maternal mortality
Study design: retrospective study
Setting: obstetrics and Gynaecology Unit-II, Liaquat University Hospital, Hyderabad - Pakistan, from January 2006 to December 2007
Material and methods: the data were retrieved from hospital record to evaluate the causes and risk factors of maternal mortality in our setup
Results: the maternal mortality rate was 1122.86/100,000 births [69/6145]. The identifiable factors were haemorrhage and sepsis both in 28.98% cases followed by eclampsia in 21.74% cases. Majority [81.16%] of the cases was unbooked. Most [52.17%] women were of more than 35 years age and 56.52% women were grandmultiparous
Conclusion: obstetrical haemorrhage and sepsis are still major causes of maternal death. Most of these deaths are preventable by providing quality care and by developing effective health care infrastructure
ABSTRACT
Objective: to determine the etiological factors, clinical presentation and pregnancy outcome in women who underwent cervical cerclage for incompetent cervix
Setting: obstetrics and Gynecology Unit-II, Liaquat University Hospital, Hyderabad-Pakistan. Data records from January 2004 to December 2006 were analyzed
Study design: a retrospective study
Material methods: the case files and OPD records of the cases of cervical incompetence were studies and data were recorded on a preceded proforma regarding patient's past obstetrical history, gestational age and cervical dilatation at the time cerclage placement, complications and pregnancy outcomes
Result: among 3033 patients admitted in the hospital 55 were diagnosed to have cervical incompetence, hence incidence come out 1.81% . In 41 patients cervical cerclage was applied, the method was "McDonald purse string suture". Out of 41 patient's miscarriage, pre-term and term delivery were 2.43% , 65.85% and 39.02% respectively. Fetal survival was 82.92% . No effect was seen on mode of delivery. There were no serious maternal complications
Conclusions: past history of recurrent mid-trimester abortion or pre-term delivery when combine with ultrasonography form reliable basis for diagnosis. Cervical cerclage seems to be the effective treatment of choice in patients with cervical incompetence
